Think of a REFERRAL as permission from your insurance company to see a specialist or to get a special test or service, such as physical therapy or a bone density scan. Administrative referrals are no longer required to see a specialist unless you have Aetna. If you do, please print out the referral form, fill it in and fax it back or drop it off. You may need to be seen in the office first if you have never been seen by us for your problem. If you have insurance other than Aetna, you will need a note from your primary doctor to give to your specialist. Usually, this is just written as a prescription. For Physical Therapy, please check with your insurance. Your plan may require a referral or a note that allows you to choose a PT and go. For Special Tests, such as bone densities, MRIs, CT scans, a pre-certification process is usually required. Check with your insurance, and if you need to be pre-certified, please call us. It is your responsibility to ascertain whether you need referrals or not, and to obtain them prior to seeking services outside our office. |
