Controlled Substances at Spruce Street:

Please note: We NEVER fill or refill controlled substance prescriptions over the phone.

For patients who use controlled substances on a routine basis, our office policy is as follows:

If your script is for 30 pills per month, and the prescription can legally be filled over the phone for 6 months at a time, we will refill the prescription for 6 months when requested by the pharmacist, provided you have been in the office in the prior year.

If your script is for more than 30 pills per month and the prescription can legally be filled over the phone for 6 months at a time, you must sign a contract in the office, and you must be seen every 6 months to have the script refilled.

If you routinely use a medication that can only be filled with a written script which you must present in person, we are legally permitted to write for 3 months of medication only. However, we must do so with 3 separate prescriptions, one for each month, with the current date on each one, and a statement as to when it can be filled. You must sign a contract in the office, and you must be seen every 3 months.

Please be advised, your identifying prescription information will be entered into Colorado’s electronic Prescription Drug Monitoring Database (PDMP) when these drugs are dispensed to you and may be accessed for limited purposes by specified individuals (Colorado Revised Statue 12-22-704(1.5)(2011).

You also have a right to access this information though the Colorado Board of Pharmacy.
